The Seniors' Intervention and Support Program of Catholic Family Services of Hamilton has been providing services for older persons who are experiencing some form of abuse. The purpose of this program is to maintain high risk elderly persons in the community in independent living situations.

Issues related to elder abuse, be it physical, financial, psychological, neglect or self-neglect are assessed by the case co-ordinator and a service plan is developed with the clients input. Personal visits at home or another comfortable meeting place is arranged to discuss the concerns that the client has, what options are available and how best to co-ordinate choices. The least intrusive recommendations are always considered first and foremost.

The goal of the program is:

• To assist and support older persons to live independently in the community.
• To provide education, awareness and intervention for seniors in abusive situations.
• To continue to nurture and develop partnerships in relation to seniors with community partners as well as educational institutions.
• To continue to provide support and education to all our volunteers.
